EADS Astrium

Astrium is a wholly owned subsidiary of EADS, a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. Airbus and Eurocopter also belong to EADS holding. Astrium has more than 40 years of experience in space area. It has participated in many prestigious space missions, e.g. Ariane, International Space Station, Envisat, Mars Express, Skynet 5.

Astrium’s technical excellence and extensive prime contractorship experience extend across all sectors of the space business – launch vehicles, manned space activities, satellite systems and related services. Among important partners of EADS Astrium belong e.g. Arianespace, Dutch Space, Astrium North America, EADS Sodern, etc.  

Astrium offers its services in three areas:

  1. Space Transportation: it represents main supplier for civil and military space transportation and manned space activities.
  2. Satellites: it is also active in the design and manufacture of satellite systems, with business activities covering civil and military telecommunications and Earth observation, science and navigation programmes, together with a complete range of associated ground infrastructure and space equipment.
  3. Services: excellent knowledge in the area of secure communication, Earth observation services, and navigation services.

Number of employees is about 15000 who work in five countries: Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain, The Netherlands. The office "Astrium Czech Republic" was opened in Prague in September 2010. On that occasion, the official reception was held at the detached workplace of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic in Janovského 438/2, 170 00 Prague 7.

Thales Alenia Space

Thales is a leading defence contractor and a major player in civil and commercial markets around the world. Its business is organised according to three main segments: aerospace and space, defence, security. It is a French company which generates close to 80% of its revenues outside France. It is represented in 50 countries in Europe, America and Asia where, inter alia, also cooperates with universities. By the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent, Thales has expanded its activities in Germany, Canada, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Poland and Austria.

The Thomson-CSF group (the Thomson-CSF was renamed to Thales in 2000) was created by privatisation in 1998. Three core businesses:

  1. Presence all along the value chain (from equipment and systems to systems integration, prime contracting and services).
  2. Dual Technologies (Balanced portfolio between defence and civil business, optimised synergies).
  3. International presence (long-term customer partnership, maximised local commercial opportunities, access to local skills and resources, meeting national security requirements).

R&D activities represent approximately 20 % of revenues. Number of employees is 68000 (50 % of them outside of France).

OHB System AG is a mid-size German space technology company and a subsidiary of the OHB Group. OHB System AG specializes in low-orbit and geostationary small satellites for scientific research, communications and earth observation, leading-edge technologies for manned space flight, models and studies for exploring our solar system as well as reconnaissance satellites and instruments for broadband wireless transmission of reconnaissance image data for greater security and reconnaissance.
