European Union and Space
In space activities the European Union pursues several strategic objectives, which lie primarily in the development and use of space applications to achieve the goals of European policy, to achieve Europe's security and defense needs concerning the space, and to guarantee a strong and competitive space industry.
By adopting the Lisbon Treaty the space policy has become a key area of EU interest with enormous political, security and economic potential. In this area the EU closely coordinates its steps with ESA. In accordance with the Lisbon Treaty the issues of space will be treated separately by the Competitiveness Council in the future. Collaterally the Space Working Group was established to serve as a working and advisory body.
